How we source

Introduction Source tier B — verbatim reporting or hands-on testing: B

Paladin was the class Blizzard detailed at BlizzCon, and its deep dive came last, on 15 October: “highly effective tanks, competitive damage dealers, and the strongest single-target healers in the game.” The clearest viability line still stands: “And yes, you can tank as a Paladin.” Protection gained real threat tools: Templar's Bulwark absorbs 100% of max health for 8 sec, and Judgement taunts at 10 yards — genuine ranged threat. Holy's Light's Vigil marks a target so the next Holy Shock on them triggers no cooldown and heals their party.

Playable by: Human, Dwarf, and 🆕 Undead (Forsaken Paladin).

Best Specialization for Leveling a Paladin Source tier B — verbatim reporting or hands-on testing: B

Retribution, 8/8/35 (Holy/Protection/Retribution) at 60

Retribution is the standard Paladin levelling spec, and both Forever level-30 guides put all 21 points in Ret. Wowhead says Shockadin/Holy DPS is 'rather problematic at level 30' for mana and damage. Ret talents fix the mana economy (Benediction, Holy Conduit, Sanctified Judgement), add the only movement speed (Pursuit of Justice) and build toward Twist of Light seal-twisting.

Sources: 'Retribution Focused Talents' level-30 build in pick order (paladin-talent-calculator#tc-yyyyyzzAABDDDEFFHBBBK): Benediction 5, Improved Judgement 2, Holy Conduit 2, Conviction 1, Sanctified Judgement 3, Seal of Command, Pursuit of Justice 2, Sacred Arbiter, Conviction 4/5, Repentance. Used verbatim for 10-30. Talented extras: Champion of the Light 1, Vengeance 3/3, Two-Handed Weapon Specialization. (2026-10-07); Level 30 Ret (talent-calc/paladin/v2--0500533120101_t0/2BEFGhJmp): Benediction 5, Conviction 5, Vindication 3, Sanctified Judgement 3, Seal of Command, Pursuit of Justice 2, Sacred Arbiter, Vengeance 1. Talented (26): Vengeance 3/3, Two-Handed Weapon Spec 2/3, Champion of the Light 1/3. Talented sits behind Well Rested 5/5 in the Legacy tree. Improved Holy Strike removed. The build is the foundation for Twist of Light. (2026-10-08); Legacy perk 'Talented' unlocks talent points up to 5 levels earlier. (read 2026-10-09).

What is client-checked and what is not

Tree layout and talent text come from Wowhead's datamined Forever dataset (dv=30), pulled 18 October 2026, carrying the 15 October beta build. Names and max ranks were checked against the live client on 25 September; talents changed since then say so in their tooltip. Values can still move between beta builds — where this page and your client disagree, believe the client. Every talent with per-rank text: Paladin Talent Trees.

Best Races for Paladin Source tier D — our analysis: D

The racial effects come from Blizzard’s 15 October notes and client data. The ordering is ours — no credible outlet has published Forever race rankings. Every racial in full →

● Alliance

RankRaceRacial that earns itWhy
BestHumanRuthless — +2% crit; The Human Spirit — +5% SpiritCrits for Retribution and Holy, Spirit for mana.
SecondDwarfStoneform — −10% Physical damage takenThe Protection and PvP pick; Earth Fury is now a healing-crit passive too.

● Horde only option

RankRaceRacial that earns itWhy
BestUndeadCannibalize — 35% of Health and Mana over time🔴 The only Horde paladin. Cannibalize is a free drink between pulls, and Touch of the Grave procs 20% of the time for Paladins.
What these rankings rest on

These rankings use the 15 October build's racials. Since that build no racial needs a weapon type, so Human and Orc crit counts for casters and Hunters too, and Skyborne's +3% haste is the strongest always-on racial for casters (for melee, Human's +2% crit edges it). A later beta build probably existed and was never documented; check the racials again at launch.

New Spells, Reworks & Playstyle Source tier A — official Blizzard or live client data: A

New: Holy Strike (level 6), Seal of Fury, and Consecration baseline at 20

🔴 Judgement no longer consumes your Seal. Twist of Light (Ret capstone) cuts Seal mana by 20% and grants an Echo when you replace a Seal, so the next swing applies the replaced Seal too — Seal Twisting without a swing-timer addon. Since beta opened: Improved Holy Strike removed and Holy Strike on a 10 sec cooldown; Sacred Arbiter +20% Holy Strike; Holy Shield blocks 30% (1 Oct). Since 15 October: Salvation and Mass Salvation replace the Salvation Blessings and stack with a Blessing (Revoke removes them); Righteous Fury holy threat is back to 90%; Champion of the Light gives 20/40/60% of Intellect as spell damage (a client hotfix restored it after the 15 October notes cut it to 10/20/30%); Reckoning stores 4 charges. Blessings lasting 1 hour was shown in the BlizzCon demo and has not been restated (Tier C).

From Blizzard's class deep dives (30 September, 7 October and the Paladin one on 15 October) and the beta development notes of 24 September and 1, 8 and 15 October, as recorded in our knowledge base on 23 October. The 15 October build is the last one with notes.

Levels 20 to 30 Source tier A — official Blizzard or live client data: A

The beta was capped at level 30 from 1 October until it closed, so this is the stretch it tested. Talent points are level − 9: the 16-point talents are bought at level 25, and a 21-point talent at exactly 30 if every point is in one tree.

Holy Strike from level 6 and Consecration at 20 are both well inside the level-30 cap. The 16-point talents (Divine Favor, Swift Judgement, Sacred Arbiter) open at 25; Holy Shock, Templar's Bulwark and Repentance need all 21 points in one tree, i.e. level 30.
