Rage, a shield, and the slowest start in the game — less slow than in Classic

Introduction Source tier B — verbatim reporting or hands-on testing: B
Protection is the intended tank and the tree is explicitly shield-gated — nearly every Prot talent reads “while a shield is equipped”, and Shield Slam scales with Block Value. That is a deliberate push away from the Classic two-hander Prot builds. Arms gains the most freedom: Weaponmaster removes the weapon-specialisation tax. For levelling, Blizzard's own changes help: Victory Rush at 20, +100% Rage from crits, and a Priest's Power Word: Shield no longer costs the Warrior Rage.
Playable by: Every race in the game, both Skyborne included — the only class every race can play.
Best Specialization for Leveling a Warrior Source tier B — verbatim reporting or hands-on testing: B
Fury (two-hander), Arms top-up after Bloodthirst
Crits now give +100% rage (Blizzard development notes, 1 October), so Cruelty then Unbridled Wrath fix early rage starvation; Enrage procs off any damaging hit taken; Death Wish at 30 gates Flurry; Bloodthirst (45% AP) at 40. Arms 18 after 42 buys Deep Wounds and Two-Handed Weapon Specialization, the 2H damage talents Fury lacks.

Recommended Leveling Talents
Our Warrior levelling build, drawn on the real trees. Pick a level to see the build at that point; hover or tap a talent for its text. Levels 10–30 are Source tier D — our analysis: D our own order, built from Blizzard’s class notes because no published Forever build matched it; 31–60 are Source tier C — provisional or placeholder data: C derived, because no Forever source published past the beta’s level-30 cap.

Tree layout and talent text come from Wowhead's datamined Forever dataset (dv=30),
pulled 18 October 2026, carrying the 15 October beta build. Names and max ranks were checked against the live client on
25 September; talents changed since then say so in their tooltip. Values can still move between beta builds —
where this page and your client disagree, believe the client. Every talent with per-rank text:

Best Races for Warrior Source tier D — our analysis: D
The racial effects come from Blizzard’s 15 October notes and client data. The ordering is ours — no credible outlet has published Forever race rankings. Every racial in full →
● Alliance
| Rank | Race | Racial that earns it | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best | Human | Ruthless — +2% crit, any weapon | For melee a crit doubles damage and gives Rage, so +2% crit edges out Skyborne's +3% haste. Will to Survive is a free stun break. |
| Second | Skyborne | Wind Blessed — +3% haste | More swings, more Rage, always on. Needs the Heroic Pack or higher and starts on Zephras Isle, away from a partner for about the first 12 levels. |
| Third | Dwarf | Stoneform — −10% Physical damage taken, 8 sec | 🔴 The Protection pick: the best tanking racial, plus bleed, poison and disease immunity. Earth Fury adds +2% critical damage. |
● Horde
| Rank | Race | Racial that earns it | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best | Orc | Savage — +1% crit; Blood Fury — +10% Attack Power | Savage plus Blood Fury (now a 3 min cooldown) keeps Orc within about a point of Skyborne, and Hardiness cuts stun duration by 20%. |
| Second | Skyborne | Wind Blessed — +3% haste | More swings, more Rage. Needs the Heroic Pack or higher and starts on Zephras Isle, away from a partner for about the first 12 levels. |
| Third | Troll | Berserking — +10% attack speed, 10 sec | Untouched on 15 October; Regeneration, now 20%, cuts downtime between pulls. |
Protection: Dwarf for the Alliance, Tauren for the Horde (+5% Health, War Stomp every 90 sec). Tauren dropped out of the damage three when its +1% hit became +2% critical damage on 15 October. PvP: Undead (Will of the Forsaken) or Orc (Hardiness).
These rankings use the 15 October build's racials. Since that build no racial needs a weapon type, so Human and Orc crit counts for casters and Hunters too, and Skyborne's +3% haste is the strongest always-on racial for casters (for melee, Human's +2% crit edges it). A later beta build probably existed and was never documented; check the racials again at launch.
New Spells, Reworks & Playstyle Source tier A — official Blizzard or live client data: A
New: Spearing Strike (Arms, 16 points), Victory Rush (baseline, learned at level 20), and three Fury talents added on 1 October: Lingering Rage, Furious Precision, Gore Drinker
Bloodthirst is back to 45% of Attack Power (raised from 35% on 1 October) — no heal, but +10% movement speed for 10 sec. Raging Blows (Fury, 16 points) cuts Cleave and Whirlwind by 3 Rage, and Whirlwind now hits with both weapons baseline. Unbridled Wrath no longer doubles for two-handers; Boundless Rage, Improved Cleave and Precision were removed; Death Wish now gates Flurry. Critical strikes give +100% Rage. Spearing Strike doubles damage against mounted targets, Dragonkin and Giants, needs Battle Stance and no longer needs a two-hander. Weaponmaster replaces the old weapon-specialisation system. Since 15 October Battle Shout reaches the whole raid, Slam no longer suffers spell pushback, Overpower works against much lower-level mobs, Lingering Rage no longer stops health regeneration after combat, and Improved Berserker Rage also removes movement-impairing effects.
From Blizzard's class deep dives (30 September, 7 October and the Paladin one on 15 October) and the beta development notes of 24 September and 1, 8 and 15 October, as recorded in our knowledge base on 23 October. The 15 October build is the last one with notes.

Levels 20 to 30 Source tier A — official Blizzard or live client data: A
The beta was capped at level 30 from 1 October until it closed, so this is the stretch it tested. Talent points are level − 9: the 16-point talents are bought at level 25, and a 21-point talent at exactly 30 if every point is in one tree.
Victory Rush arrives at 20 — the Warrior's first self-heal. The 16-point talents (Spearing Strike, Raging Blows, Vanguard) open at 25, and Fury reaches Death Wish at 30. Our levelling order (Tier D): Fury two-hander — Cruelty 5/5, Unbridled Wrath 5/5, Blood Craze 3/3, Piercing Howl and Lingering Rage, Enrage 5/5, Death Wish at 30. First Aid until Victory Rush, and still useful after.
