Two sources, checked against each other

Dungeon Data, Cross-Checked

We checked a community dungeon dataset against Wowhead's datamined Forever build, item by item and quest by quest, then settled the disagreement from the game client itself. The headline: Wowhead's Forever dungeon quest XP leaves off a multiplier — set per dungeon and stored in the client's own quest cache. We measured it at 2.90× to 4.35× on 27 September; Blizzard halved the dungeon quest bonus on 1 October, so those measurements are now history. On the 15 October build we measured the cut itself: the bonus was halved exactly.

How we source

🔴 Our measured multipliers predate the 1 October XP change

The numbers below were read from the client on 27 September 2026, beta build 70009. Blizzard's 1 October development notes then said: “Dungeon quests now reward 50% less extra experience beyond normal quest values.” On 8 October dungeon creatures gave about 20% more experience, and kill XP stopped being penalised by the highest-level party member (back to the Classic per-member rule). Blizzard's stated aim is dungeon XP per hour roughly equal to good questing.

Read the table below as history: it was measured before the 1 October change. The cut itself was measured on 18 October from the quest cache of the 15 October build: every dungeon quest seen in both pulls landed exactly on 1 + (old − 1) ÷ 2 — Wailing Caverns 2.90 → 1.95, Ragefire Chasm 3.05 → 2.025 — with first values for Razorfen Downs (2.10) and Excavation Site: Wetlands (2.20) Source tier A — official Blizzard or live client data: A. The current figure for each dungeon is on the dungeon list; where it was not measured, it is worked out from that rule and marked as our analysis.

The quest-XP multiplier Source tier A — official Blizzard or live client data: A measured 27 September

The client's quest cache (questcache.wdb) stores a RewardXPMultiplier on every quest. For dungeon-type quests it was well above 1, set per dungeon — and in Ruins of Lordaeron, per faction. Wowhead shows the base XP with the multiplier left off, so do not plan a levelling route from Wowhead's Forever quest XP either way.

DungeonExample questWowhead (base)Measured 27 Sep, build 70009 — before the 1 Oct change

The DeadminesThe Defias Brotherhood2,6003.75× · 9,750
Shadowfang KeepArugal Must Die3,3004.35× · 14,355

It was not level-driven. The same level-22 Crest of Lordaeron was 3.75× for Alliance and 3.20× for Horde. Exceptions in the 27 September pull: two Deadmines tunnel quests (Oh Brother…, Collecting Memories) carried 1.0, and Destruction in Deadmines carried 3.0. Blackfathom Deeps was not in the cache.

Our first pass (27 September) found the same effect from two sources, seven quests and two dungeons, and read it as “a constant 3.4–3.75× that rises with level”. The client data showed the range was wider and the level theory wrong. Logged as a correction.

What follows from it

Dungeon quests are probably still worth more than Wowhead's base numbers suggest — Blizzard cut the extra experience rather than removing it, and our client measured by how much: the bonus above base was halved exactly (Wailing Caverns 2.90× → 1.95×). Source tier A — official Blizzard or live client data: A But the old conclusion, that Forever front-loads dungeon quest XP as a one-time jackpot worth more than any amount of grinding, no longer holds. Since 1 and 8 October Blizzard has been steering dungeons toward parity with questing: smaller quest bonus, more XP per kill, and a party rule that no longer punishes a group for one higher-level member. Run dungeons for gear, groups and fun; do not route around them for XP alone. See the duo levelling page for pairing advice.

How sure this is

The measured multipliers were read from client data, the strongest source tier we use — for 27 September. They agreed with the Forever Dungeon Journal addon's liveXPFallback values on 31 of 34 quests where both exist. Of the three misses, two were plainly on the addon's side: The Unsent Letter and Searching for the Lost Satchel carried base XP where the multiplied figures were 3,262 and 2,684. The third, Unending Torment, was 5,300 in the addon against 5,280 computed. Since 1 October the addon's multiplied values are likely stale too.

A fresh questcache.wdb pull on the 15 October build (read 18 October) settled the cut: every dungeon quest seen in both pulls landed exactly on 1 + (old − 1) ÷ 2. Deathstalkers in Shadowfang (base 2,000) read 8,700 at 4.35× before the cut; by the same rule it now pays about 5,350 (2.675×) — derived, not measured. Source tier D — our analysis: D

231 item IDs, checked one by one

Every dungeon loot and quest-reward item ID in the dataset was resolved against Wowhead's Forever build. A control pair ran first — a known-good ID resolved, a bogus ID returned 404 — so a failure to resolve would have meant something. 231 of 231 resolved, zero failures. 22 disagreed:

ItemAddon saysWowhead says
271207Wispcloth LeggingsRotmender's Leggings
271214Frostbane TreadsRotmender's Treads
251485Edwards' KnifeEdward's Knife

The first two are substantive rather than typos, and both sit on Forever-new item IDs (271xxx). The client settles them in Wowhead's favour: its hotfix cache holds Rotmender's Leggings and Rotmender's Treads, and neither Wispcloth nor Frostbane appears anywhere in it. The other 19 disagreements are item quality, and they skew one way: 17 of 19 have the addon saying Uncommon where Wowhead says Rare, which is the signature of one source inheriting Classic rarities.

Those quality counts are as of 27 September. Blizzard's 8 October notes lowered various dungeon quest rewards from Rare to Uncommon and rescaled their stats, so some of the 17 may now be settled in the addon's favour. We have not re-checked them against the current build.

Where the community data is the only data

Worth saying plainly

Wowhead has no loot and no NPC data at all for the two Forever-new dungeons — Ruins of Lordaeron and The Hall of Thanes. Their pages carry quests and nothing else; there is no drops listview to be empty. For those two, the community addon is currently the only source of loot data anywhere. Our cross-check can tell you where the two sources disagree; it cannot tell you anything about dungeons where only one source exists.

The dataset, and whose it is

The community data here is Forever Dungeon Journal by Exehn. We have not republished it — compiling it was his work, and this page deliberately carries only our own analysis of where it and Wowhead differ. If you want the dungeon journal itself, get the addon.

He deserves credit for something else too: his SOURCES.txt is unusually honest. It states outright that his data "mix[es] observed Forever items with inherited Classic drop assignments" and that the addon "does not claim drop chances". That candour is what made this cross-check possible — you cannot check a dataset that will not tell you what it is.

Harvested 27 September 2026 from Wowhead Forever zone pages (9 dungeons) and ForeverDungeonJournal v1.2.0. Item names resolved via dataEnv=16. Quest XP multipliers and item names settled from the beta client's quest and hotfix caches, 27 September (build 70009). XP changes from Blizzard's beta development notes of 1 and 8 October; the post-cut values were measured from the 15 October build's quest cache (18 October).
