What Forever Is
Not a Classic re-run and not a new expansion. A permanent third branch alongside Retail and Classic, included with the standard subscription, that takes the original Azeroth and grows it: four new zones, nine new dungeons, three raids, 1,000+ quests, and a level cap that stays at 60 forever.
Because the cap never rises, everything that would normally be "the next tier" has to come from somewhere else. Three systems carry that weight: Legacy (account-wide horizontal progression), Camping (profession objects placed in the world), and a deliberate itemization rework intended to break twenty years of solved gearing. How the systems work →
It is also realmless. You pick one of four rulesets rather than a server, and characters carry two-part names, so the launch-day name scramble largely evaporates.
How to Read This Guide
Forever has not launched yet and a lot of what circulates about it is unsourced. The beta was dataminable, so much of this guide is read from the client rather than from BlizzCon slides — but not all of it. Every significant claim carries a tier marker so you can tell what is load-bearing:
- Source tier A — official Blizzard or live client data: AOfficial or first-hand — Blizzard's announcements and blue posts, or data read directly from the beta client.
- Source tier B — verbatim reporting or hands-on testing: BVerbatim reporting — outlets quoting Blizzard developers directly, or hands-on beta testing by a named writer.
- Source tier C — provisional or placeholder data: CProvisional — talent-calculator values Wowhead itself stamps as placeholders, BlizzCon demo notes, and Classic 1.12 baselines Forever appears to preserve but has not confirmed.
- Source tier D — our analysis: DAnalysis — our reading of the above. Argued, not asserted.
Wowhead stamps every Forever tooltip as carrying placeholder values, and says rank scaling may be wrong. Throughout this guide, structure and tier positions are reliable where the individual numbers may not be. Where this site and your client disagree, believe the client.
A lot of confident nonsense is circulating. Several aggregator and boosting sites publish invented Forever details — we have caught and named at least one outright fabrication. This guide links no such sites and flags their claims where we have seen them. The claims we could not stand up →
