Introduction Source tier B — verbatim reporting or hands-on testing: B
Discipline gets Penance and an absorb theme; Holy gets Prayer of Mending and raw throughput; Shadow gets a mana cost it can actually pay. Fear Ward and Devouring Plague going baseline removes Classic's oddest racial advantages; each race instead teaches two Priest race spells (Undead: Touch of Weakness and Dark Sacrifice). For a duo with a Warrior, Power Word: Shield no longer costs him Rage. Priest also keeps Meditation, which is what makes Spirit a real stat — see Mechanics.
Playable by: Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, 🆕 Gnome, Undead, Troll.
Best Specialization for Leveling a Priest Source tier B — verbatim reporting or hands-on testing: B
Shadow (Wand Specialization from Discipline), Discipline top-up after Shadowform
Wand Specialization first (the wand is 40-50% of levelling damage), then Spirit Tap for mana; SW:P, Mind Blast and Mind Flay talents raise kill speed. Since the 15 October build Improved Mind Blast sits in row 2, Improved Mind Flay ramps each tick, Vampiric Embrace has a 30 s cooldown (so it is up almost all the time), and Dark Inspiration gives you and your party Spirit. Shadowform is the 31st Shadow point; with 2 points in Wand Specialization the earliest it can be bought is 42. Discipline 20 after that adds Twin Disciplines, Mental Strength (now row 2, Intellect), a stronger PW:S and Meditation.
Sources: Dev notes Oct 15: Improved Mind Blast to row 2, Dark Inspiration (row 4), Improved Mind Flay ramp, VE 30 s CD, Improved Fade removed, Mental Strength row 2, Improved PW:S row 3 (2026-10-15); Tree structure, gates, prerequisites (site/foreversite/data/talents.json, post-15 Oct tree) (2026-10-18); Icy Veins Shadow (updated after Oct 15): Wand Spec 2 first, Spirit Tap, Imp SW:P, Imp Mind Blast, Mind Flay + Imp Mind Flay, VE, Dark Inspiration (read via a research agent, not re-read) (2026-10-16).
Recommended Leveling Talents
Our Priest levelling build, drawn on the real trees. Pick a level to see the build at that point; hover or tap a talent for its text. Levels 10–30 are Source tier D — our analysis: D our own order, built from Blizzard’s class notes because no published Forever build matched it; 31–60 are Source tier C — provisional or placeholder data: C derived, because no Forever source published past the beta’s level-30 cap.

Tree layout and talent text come from Wowhead's datamined Forever dataset (dv=30),
pulled 18 October 2026, carrying the 15 October beta build. Names and max ranks were checked against the live client on
25 September; talents changed since then say so in their tooltip. Values can still move between beta builds —
where this page and your client disagree, believe the client. Every talent with per-rank text:

Best Races for Priest Source tier D — our analysis: D
The racial effects come from Blizzard’s 15 October notes and client data. The ordering is ours — no credible outlet has published Forever race rankings. Every racial in full →
● Alliance
| Rank | Race | Racial that earns it | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best | Human | Ruthless — +2% crit; The Human Spirit — +5% Spirit | Crits on heals and Smite, Spirit for mana; Divine Grace is a strong emergency heal. |
| Second | Gnome | Eureka! — 8 sec of cheaper, stronger casting | Since 15 October it also benefits healing and Power Word: Shield. Confounding Flash and Contingency Plan are the Gnome Priest spells. |
| Third | Night Elf | Elune's Light — +10% crit, 15 sec | Starshards hits much harder now, and Elune's Grace blunts melee. Dwarf is a close fourth (Fear Ward is baseline for everyone). |
● Horde
| Rank | Race | Racial that earns it | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best | Undead | Touch of Weakness + Dark Sacrifice; Cannibalize | 🔴 The Horde Priest pick. Cannibalize restores Mana, Touch of the Grave procs 30% of the time for casters, and Will of the Forsaken. |
| Second | Troll | Berserking — +10% casting speed; Regeneration 20% | Hex of Weakness and Shadowguard are the Troll Priest spells. |
These rankings use the 15 October build's racials. Since that build no racial needs a weapon type, so Human and Orc crit counts for casters and Hunters too, and Skyborne's +3% haste is the strongest always-on racial for casters (for melee, Human's +2% crit edges it). A later beta build probably existed and was never documented; check the racials again at launch.
New Spells, Reworks & Playstyle Source tier A — official Blizzard or live client data: A
New: Penance, Prayer of Mending, Binding Heal, Shadow Word: Death (level 32), and 🔴 Fear Ward and Devouring Plague baseline for every Priest at 20
Shadowform also cuts Shadow spell mana cost by 50%, which is the difference between Shadow being a levelling novelty and a sustainable spec. Divine Aegis and Soul Warding give Discipline an absorb identity distinct from Holy's throughput. Since beta opened: Shadow Weaving can no longer fail, Devouring Plague can crit, Inner Focus no longer crits periodic effects (1 Oct), and Penance was retuned (8 Oct). Smite, Lesser Heal and Heal ranks were rebalanced on 8 October so every new rank is an upgrade — train them all. 15 October reshuffled Shadow: Improved Mind Blast moved to row 2; Improved Fade and Shadow Affinity were removed for Dark Inspiration (Mind Blast or a full Mind Flay raises your party's Spirit); Improved Mind Flay now ramps each tick; Vampiric Embrace can't be resisted and has a 30 sec cooldown. Devouring Plague's cooldown is 24 sec, Shadow Word: Death's 18 sec, and wands need 0.5 sec standing still.
From Blizzard's class deep dives (30 September, 7 October and the Paladin one on 15 October) and the beta development notes of 24 September and 1, 8 and 15 October, as recorded in our knowledge base on 23 October. The 15 October build is the last one with notes.

Every milestone talent in the three trees, with the earliest level you can take it (points = level − 9, all in that tree):
| Tree | Talent | Milestone | Earliest level | Rank 1 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Discipline | Inner Focus | 11-point | 20 | When activated, reduces the Mana cost of your next spell by 100% and increases its critical effect chance by 25% if it is a non-periodic spell and capable of a critical effect. |
| Discipline | Soul Warding | 16-point (new in Forever) | 25 | Reduces the cooldown on your Power Word: Shield spell by 4 sec and reduces its mana cost by 15%. |
| Discipline | Penance | 21-point | 30 | Launches a volley of holy light at the target, causing 45 Holy damage to an enemy, or 134 healing to an ally, instantly and every 1 sec for 2 sec. |
| Discipline | Power Infusion | 31-point capstone | 40 | Infuses the target with power, increasing their spell damage and healing done by 20% for 15 sec. |
| Holy | Holy Nova | 11-point | 20 | Causes an explosion of holy light around the caster, causing 26 to 30 Holy damage to all enemy targets within 10 yards and healing all party members within 10 yards for 50 to 57. These effects cause no threat. |
| Holy | Binding Heal | 16-point (new in Forever) | 25 | Heals a friendly target and the caster for 236 to 284. Low threat. |
| Holy | Spirit of Redemption | 21-point | 30 | Upon death, the priest becomes the Spirit of Redemption for 15 sec. The Spirit of Redemption cannot move, attack, be attacked or targeted by any spells or effects. While in this form the priest can cast any healing spell free of cost. When the effect ends, the priest dies. |
| Holy | Prayer of Mending | 31-point capstone | 40 | Places a spell on the target that heals them for 172 plus 42.9% of your healing power the next time they take damage or receive non-periodic healing. When the heal occurs, Prayer of Mending jumps to a party or raid member within 20 yards. Jumps up to 5 times and lasts 30 sec after each jump. This spell can only be placed on one target at a time per caster. |
| Shadow | Mind Flay | 11-point | 20 | Assault the target's mind with Shadow energy, causing 63 Shadow damage over 3 sec and slowing their movement speed by 50%. |
| Shadow | Vampiric Embrace | 16-point (new in Forever) | 25 | Afflicts your target with Shadow energy that causes all party members to be healed for 20% of any Shadow spell damage you deal for 30 sec. |
| Shadow | Silence | 21-point | 30 | Silences the target, preventing them from casting spells for 5 sec and interrupting their spellcasts for 3 sec. |
| Shadow | Shadowform | 31-point capstone | 40 | Assume Shadowform, increasing your Shadow damage by 10%, reducing the Mana cost of all Shadow spells by 50%, increasing the critical strike damage bonus of your Shadow spells by 100%, and reducing Physical damage taken by you by 15%. However, you may not cast healing spells while in this form. |
Levels 20 to 30 Source tier A — official Blizzard or live client data: A
The beta was capped at level 30 from 1 October until it closed, so this is the stretch it tested. Talent points are level − 9: the 16-point talents are bought at level 25, and a 21-point talent at exactly 30 if every point is in one tree.
Shadow to 30 (Tier D order): Wand Specialization, Spirit Tap, Improved Shadow Word: Pain and Improved Mind Blast, then Mind Flay at 22, Improved Mind Flay and Vampiric Embrace at 27. The 16-point talents (Soul Warding, Binding Heal, Vampiric Embrace) open at 25. Penance needs all 21 points in Discipline at 30; Prayer of Mending was out of reach in the beta.
